Q. History of this drum
set - Where did this come from?
- This set was given away by Neil and magazine
Modern Drummer as part of a drumming contest many years ago.
Readers sent in tapes and were judged and and prizes were awarded.
I believe that Neil helped judge the contest and this drum set was
the grand prize. (There was also a contest giveaway where writers
had to write an essay, to win. That was the 1st contest, this set
was from the 2nd contest)
- The kit was then sold on eBay approximately
4 or 5 years ago which is where my client purchased this kit. The
seller on that eBay auction was Jack Hess who is the original winner
of the contest. My client spent over $20,000.00 to win this set.
- My client has thoroughly enjoyed having this
great set on display at his studio. The current owner has not abused
or played this set. He has kept it on display in the condition which
he received it. Don't miss out, this is your chance to own a great
piece of history.
Q. What happened to the bass drum tom
mounts? Didn't Neil have them custom fitted and where are they now?
- Yes, Neil did have them custom made. Neil
removed the mounting hardware and placed them on a different kit before
he gave this set away. My client knows the guy who helped design the
mounts and we will put the next buyer in touch with him so that
they can have new mounts made if so desired.
Are the lugs brass or are they chrome????
- My client says that they should be brass;
however they may be tarnished and/ or faded. The bottom of the concert
toms may be chrome however.
What about the cymbal stands???
- The cymbal stands are included and they were
also owned by Neil. The cymbal stands are not brass, but chrome. It
looks like Neil kept the brass ones for his kit when he upgraded and
got rid of this artstar prototype. The cymbals were not included in
this sale as they belong to the owner and are not part of the Neil
kit .
